A good story but very predictable. It does have some explicit sex scenes so it may not be great for everyone. It was good but not good enough for me to want to read the second book.

Next To Last Stand Craig Johnson
by Craig Johnson Longmire Series

book cover

4 bright stars for another enjoyable book by Craig Johnson. All the familiar characters are here: Henry Standing Bear, native Cheyenne owner of the Red Pony bar Walt Longmire, Absaroka County Sheriff Victoria Moretti, Walt's under sheriff and sometime lover Ruby, Absaroka County dispatcher This book is #16 in the series, and I recommend that you read them in order, as the book refers to incidents in previous books. The book centers on a famous painting "Custer's Last Fight." Millions of copies of this painting were distributed by beer maker Anheuser-Busch. It was supposedly destroyed in a fire in 1946. But then a resident of the Veterans' Home of Wyoming dies and Walt is called in by the director Carol because she found a shoe box with $1 million in cash in Charley Lee Stillwater's room. Walt searches the room and finds a painting proof that looks like it is connected to the supposedly destroyed "Custer's Last Fight." Unraveling the mystery of the million dollars and the painting leads Walt into a dangerous game of cat and mouse with killers. He does solve the case with help from Victoria and residents of the Veterans' Home. There are laugh out loud lines in this book, Walt and Henry discussing Custer: Walt: "Custer was a dashing and flamboyant commander..." Henry; "A devious and irrational bundle of manic depression who finished last in his class at West Point---in short a horse's ass." Both my wife and I enjoy this series. I read this library book in 2 days.

I really enjoyed this book. Set in the early 1920’s and from 3 different Womens’s perspectives. Widely different. A great read and it brings home the fact that we’re all so similar even if appearances don’t show that!

Squeeze Me Carl Hiaasen

4 stars for a hilarious book recommended by my s-i-l Judie. I have read 11 books by Carl Hiaasen and enjoyed every one. This one is book 8 in the Skink series. Skink is the former Florida Governor who walked off the job in an earlier book. He was and is an environmentalist, given to outrageous acts of sabotage against companies or people who damage the environment. He does not appear in this book until the second half. The 1st half is about the interchange of incidents between Angela, "Angie" Armstrong, ex Florida Wildlife Officer, Jerry Crosby, Palm Beach Police Chief, a now ex President, along with his wife, and various Secret Service Agents and employees at Casa Bellicosa, aka Winter White House. The President and his wife are never mentioned by name, but the descriptions are so vivid that it is impossible not to know who is who. The second half brings Skink and Jim Tile, a Skink friend into contact with everyone. Some elements in the book: Burmese Pythons--an invasive species thriving in the Everglades Pruitt, a poacher from Angela's past POTUS Pussies--Wealthy widows who adore the President Three quotes: "Angie had been summoned to Casa Bellicosa to unfasten a screech owl from the presidential pompadour, which the low swooping raptor had mistaken for a road-kill fox." "The President's Secret Service's code name was "Mastotodon." He loved it. " "On only his second day in the Whit House, the President had ordered his chief of staff to arrange a trip to the National Zoo for a close-up look at a real mastodon." This was a library ebook through the Libby app.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir

This book is an overview of the career of French Impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir. The author did an excellent job of making his commentary accessible to both casual readers and art experts. There is good blend of historical context and explanations of how art was changing during Renoir's life and how it played out in his work. This is definitely recommended for those who wish to expand their art knowledge.

I do not typically immediately read a second book in a series. However in this case I made an exception. Boy am I ever glad that I did! This was a really good book. Fast pace, left you wanting more! Main character development was well thought out. Story line had enough twists to keep you reading Definitely recommend it. Ballducci picks up where he left off . Can't wait for the next one!

Excellent story, have read this author before but this was such a great story, found it hard to put down. This was definitely one of her best books yet, and that's saying something, because so far I have enjoyed them all.

Super cute book! If you want an easy, sit by the pool book, this is a good one for you. It is not a heavy book but a nice light read with bits of comedy laced in it.
