Yours Truly, Thomas
by Rachel Fordham

I chose this because it was a staff pick and I wasn't disappointed. Penny finds love letters from her father to her mother, but doesn't get the chance to read them. Her father explains there are many types of love and we see that throughout the book. After her father dies, Penny feels her mother doesn't love her. Penny has to go to work after the death of her father. She works in the dead letter officer reading misdirected letters in an attempt to find the intended recipient. One letter touches her heart, making her long for true love. My only complaint with the book was it was set in the late 1800s and the dialogue seemed too modern for the time frame. Otherwise it was a great book.

This book is the first in a proposed series. Taking place in the Grand Canyon National Park, a young girl is kidnapped and held for ransom. Her new step-father must hike into the Canyon and retrieve a long-hidden stash of Anasazi treasure. Lots of plot twists and somewhat exciting. Hopefully subsequent books in the series will be even better.

This book was kind of sad and depressing to me. Not a typical beach read that I’m used to from her

Next To Last Stand Craig Johnson
by Craig Johnson Longmire Series

4 bright stars for another enjoyable book by Craig Johnson. All the familiar characters are here: Henry Standing Bear, native Cheyenne owner of the Red Pony bar Walt Longmire, Absaroka County Sheriff Victoria Moretti, Walt's under sheriff and sometime lover Ruby, Absaroka County dispatcher This book is #16 in the series, and I recommend that you read them in order, as the book refers to incidents in previous books. The book centers on a famous painting "Custer's Last Fight." Millions of copies of this painting were distributed by beer maker Anheuser-Busch. It was supposedly destroyed in a fire in 1946. But then a resident of the Veterans' Home of Wyoming dies and Walt is called in by the director Carol because she found a shoe box with $1 million in cash in Charley Lee Stillwater's room. Walt searches the room and finds a painting proof that looks like it is connected to the supposedly destroyed "Custer's Last Fight." Unraveling the mystery of the million dollars and the painting leads Walt into a dangerous game of cat and mouse with killers. He does solve the case with help from Victoria and residents of the Veterans' Home. There are laugh out loud lines in this book, Walt and Henry discussing Custer: Walt: "Custer was a dashing and flamboyant commander..." Henry; "A devious and irrational bundle of manic depression who finished last in his class at West Point---in short a horse's ass." Both my wife and I enjoy this series. I read this library book in 2 days.

Little Fires Everywhere

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng was a very captivating story. The underlying themes of motherhood and a pre-planned society were very interesting to read about. This book taught me that sometimes it is good to be spontaneous and not live a "perfect life" like Mrs. Richardson aspired to do.
