Billie B Brown The Best Project
by Sally Rippin
View in Library Catalog
book cover

The Billie B Brown series is one of our favorites...they're perfect for quick family read alouds or assisted beginner reads. We loved that this one highlighted Billie's baby brother since we have a baby in our family too. We laughed quite a bit in this one.

The King Maker

This book was a fantastic mix of Romance, Native American Activism, and straight up ugly Capitalism. The main characters (Nix and Maxim) are fantastically well written and developed. The author really must have done a lot of research for this story, and she was very good at finding a topic that is very relatable to what is happening today without, completely mirroring real situations. I jumped right in to the sequel!

4 stars for a fast moving mystery. Sharon McCone is a Private Investigator based in San Francisco, California. Ricky Savage is a popular country music star. He is married to Sharon's sister Charlene. Ricky comes to Sharon because he has received several cryptic threatening letters. She agrees to take on the case, and persuades him to hire RKI, a security company specializing in protecting high profile people. It is run by Hy Ripinsky. Hy and Sharon are in a relationship. Sharon does solve the case with help from her team. There are some twists and turns in the plot. I was not sure how it would end and who was behind the letters until the end. I read this library book in 3 days.

Next To Last Stand Craig Johnson

4 bright stars for another enjoyable book by Craig Johnson. All the familiar characters are here: Henry Standing Bear, native Cheyenne owner of the Red Pony bar Walt Longmire, Absaroka County Sheriff Victoria Moretti, Walt's under sheriff and sometime lover Ruby, Absaroka County dispatcher This book is #16 in the series, and I recommend that you read them in order, as the book refers to incidents in previous books. The book centers on a famous painting "Custer's Last Fight." Millions of copies of this painting were distributed by beer maker Anheuser-Busch. It was supposedly destroyed in a fire in 1946. But then a resident of the Veterans' Home of Wyoming dies and Walt is called in by the director Carol because she found a shoe box with $1 million in cash in Charley Lee Stillwater's room. Walt searches the room and finds a painting proof that looks like it is connected to the supposedly destroyed "Custer's Last Fight." Unraveling the mystery of the million dollars and the painting leads Walt into a dangerous game of cat and mouse with killers. He does solve the case with help from Victoria and residents of the Veterans' Home. There are laugh out loud lines in this book, Walt and Henry discussing Custer: Walt: "Custer was a dashing and flamboyant commander..." Henry; "A devious and irrational bundle of manic depression who finished last in his class at West Point---in short a horse's ass." Both my wife and I enjoy this series. I read this library book in 2 days.

A modern day pride and prejudice? Not even close. Gosh I don’t know why I slogged through this book. It really was pretty shallow and I found myself not caring how it ended!

I really enjoyed reading the book smile.my favorite parts where when Raina got her two front teeth knocked out, and when her little sister teased her for being a metal mouth with braces.I'd recomend this book to anyone who likes graphic novels, dramatic life stories, and true stories.

The Invisible Life Of Addie Larue

The novel was good, not great. It definitely meanders at times. The characters feel underdeveloped and the plot doesn't really move that quickly. It is a clever idea for a story. The author's writing is quite descriptive, so if you enjoy that, this is worth a read.

Hideaway

Appreciated getting a few days advance copy of this book- -With the pandemic, that wasn’t much, though! Somehow I can’t give this a 5- loved the characters, the story, the setting, the economy of words that is perfect Nora Roberts-The Latina maid and the privileged characters , the man that comes to kill her is described-doesn’t need to be- I think the times have made me hyper sensitive! I enjoy her books when there is a touch more suspense. She continues to be one of my favorite authors, and I will never forget meeting her in person, at a grocery store visit, of all places!
