My Absolute Darling Gabriel Tallent

This book was nothing like I was expecting, but a great surprise read. It was dark and twisted, and I couldn't wait to see what happened next.

Educated By Tara Westover

A memoir of a young woman who grew up with parents who were "preppers"/survivalists. The things she endured from home schooling (that never really occurred) to a father who did not believe in medical treatments, even when his children were severely injured, was at times extremely frustrating to read and at other times made you realize the resiliency of the human spirit. You have to read this book to see how she preserved to make something of herself in the "real" world that she was kept sheltered from her whole childhood!

Sleep Tight Little Bear

This was a good book about animals who hibernate. It intrigued my son enough to keep asking questions about what and why certain animals hibernate.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this book. The story provided a lot of historical context and spiritual reflection, the the lack of resolution was unsatisfactory.

Magic Treehouse Ghost Town At Sundown

I liked that this story had ghosts, it was scary and had horses. My favorite part was when Slim told the ghost story. Another good part was then the ghost was playing the piano.

The Vanishing Half

This author has a great "storytelling" voice. Her descriptions are rich but not overly loquacious. Her word choice is varied and precise. She develops her characters well and creates a compelling, moving plot.

Neighbors

I enjoyed this book and how she meshed the characters together to make a good story on how neighbors pulled together in a crisis. And as always a happy ending.

In An Instant Suzanne Redfearn

This book started out slow for me and initially felt scripted. However there is a lot of food for thought about our actions during a crisis. Would make a great book club book!

The Knife Of Never Letting Go

Surprisingly attention grabbing book. It dangled you along with the "something happened" hook and you had to keep reading to find out what that was. It takes place on a colonized planet where things are not as they're supposed to be and the thoughts of men can be heard. The writing is from the perspective of a illiterate, uneducated child on the edge of manhood and what happens to him when he discovers an anomaly.

Great story. Patterson has added another author to his crew
