Brideshead Revisited
by Evelyn Waugh
View in Library Catalog
book cover

As Charles Ryder went back in time, I was there with him. The characters and the scenery presented a story about an ancestral family in a changing England. But Brideshead is more than that. It shares the story of England and of family, yes. But beyond this it shares the evolution of love to its selfless form: agape.

Nice and naughty book. Two characters from worlds most of us don't understand, come together for the benefit of their families, not for love. It is a good, unpredictable read.

The Cat Who Could Read Backwards

I quite enjoyed the cat in this book. It was a nice quick read. The mystery wasn't the most interesting and am not fond of the result. Though, the interesting characters and town are enough of a reason to keep reading. Also, a very intelligent feline.

Here All Along

I went into this not knowing anything about Judaism, and it was worth it. It is a bit of a long read, and certain parts can be rather drawn out. But overall, Hurwitz does an admirable work in condensing a whole religion, it's text and traditions, into an enjoyable read. No matter your level of knowledge on Judaism or religion in general, Hurwitz will teach something new.

I really enjoyed this book. Set in the early 1920’s and from 3 different Womens’s perspectives. Widely different. A great read and it brings home the fact that we’re all so similar even if appearances don’t show that!

We LOVE Billie B Brown...Perfect for quick family read alouds, or assisted beginner reads. We like guessing what the 'B' stands for in each book. In this one, we were proud of Billie for making the right decision to protect Jack's feelings & make a new friend in the process!

A Royal Affair

This is the second book of a new series. It is a mystery series that occurs after WW2. The main characters are Gwen, a war widow recovering from her husband's death and Iris, a former spry for Britain. They are quirky, intelligent and learning to work together at their new venture, The Right Sort Marriage Bureau. This story features The King, Princess Elizabeth and a cast of characters read to blackmail, murder or double cross. Intelligent and enjoyable book!!
